UNIMOG and tractor friends Biberach e.v.

The UNIMOG- und Schlepper-Freunde Biberach e.V. is a non-profit association for the cultivation of the customs of old UNIMOGs and tractors.

Our activities

Meeting in Biberach

Joint trips to other UNIMOG and tractor friends foster camaraderie and communication among like-minded people! Every year around 120 vehicles come to the Biberach "UNIMOG and tractor meeting" directly in front of Biberach town hall.

Trips & Visits

Every festival lives from visitors - and these are attracted by the variety of vehicles - therefore mutual visits are very valuable for every association and also promote the cultural-historical connection between the population and the "old" technology.

Restoration

The restoration of decades-old vehicles is a special task that consumes a lot of time and money. But this is the only way to preserve for posterity what served as the basis for Europe's economic success!

History of the UNIMOG- and tractor-meeting in Biberach/Baden

An idea is born - Unimog and tractor get-together

In 2003, Wilhelm Schmieder ("Winterbauer") from Prinzbach came up with the idea of holding a UNIMOG and tractor meeting in Biberach. The background to this was that the number of visitors to the annual summer festival of the male choir was steadily declining and the 3-day festival was soon changed to a 1-day festival. In order to create an attraction that would appeal to the public and attract visitors, new new ideas were sought.

The idea of a UNIMOG and tractor meeting then caught on and was a success story right from the start. For it was a time when this type of vehicle meeting was not as widespread as it is today. The interest of both vehicle owners and visitors was very great. And regardless of age - from children to grandfathers - everyone was enthusiastic. Depending on the weather, the meeting still attracts 80 - 120 vehicles today.

In addition to the display of the vehicles, the lively discussion with and among the visitors and vehicle owners was of course also a success. It fand again and again exchange took place and many a great idea was born or a special technical problem was solved during these "diesel talks". or a special technical problem solved. Both the visitors and the vehicle owners always drew a very positive assessment of the visit to the festival.

Culture and customs

The cultural-historical effect should not be overlooked either: showing today's younger generations what equipment and vehicles were used in the past is an important task. What hardships had to be endured to get from A to B. And also what it meant to drive an old tractor or UNIMOG. And also what it meant to cultivate the fields and the forest with an old tractor or UNIMOG.

People don't have much idea of that anymore in this day and age, since the most modern high-tech machines cultivate the fields and do the forest work. In a fraction of the time that was needed 50 Jyears ago.

The oldest model, that ever took part in this meeting was by the way a Fordson-tractor from 1919, an American model. The vehicle was totally rusted and nobody believed that anything could still move: but the engine was running and the tractor could drive on its own axle onto the trailer...

Of course, the large square in front of and around the town hall is fitting for the vehicle exhibition. There are enough parking spaces for the vehicles there. In addition, the atmosphere with the town hall, the local history museum and the "old factory" is of course also a feast for the eyes. An ensemble perfectly suited to the festival.

Change of responsibility of the hospitality

In 2018, the Men's Choir decided to no longer manage the festival for reasons of age.

The previous organisers of the UNIMOG and tractor meeting, Wilhelm Schmieder ("Winterbauer"), Daniel Schmieder and Gerhard Große, did not want to let this great festival die. So the association "Schlepper- und UNIMOG-Freunde Biberach e.V." was founded back in November 2018. 16 people were involved in the founding meeting. As of January 2020, there are 22 members.

In 2019, it was decided to cooperate with the "KinzigFoodWheels" - a local caterer who prepares the food fresh directly at the festival. After evaluating the feedback slips, it was decided that from 2020 the food will also be served at the table again.

Future

Das Ziel des Vereins ist es, das jährliche UNIMOG- und Schlepper-Treffen in der Ortsmitte von Biberach erfolgreich durchzuführen. 2023 findet es bereits zum 18. Mal statt:

Datum: Sonntag, 02. Juli 2023 in der Ortsmitte Biberach/Baden

Furthermore, we are thinking about what activities the association can start to get young people more involved in this hobby and technology and to inspire them. The technical basis can easily become over 100 years old - the human basis lags behind with an average life expectancy of 80 years ... So we need a cross-generational circle of friends to continue the history of the UNIMOG and tractors!

So the association "Schlepper- und UNIMOG-Freunde Biberach e.V." was founded back in November 2018. 16 people were involved in the founding meeting.

The members of the new association were naturally concerned with the question of whether to organise the catering part of the festival themselves or whether there was the possibility of a cooperation with another association that would take over this part. They wanted to concentrate exclusively on the organisation of the meeting. Talks that took place in October 2018 with another association, which also organises its village festival in July, were unfortunately not crowned with success. Therefore, the foundation of the association was necessary to create a legal basis and to be heard in the community.

The catering of the festival will in future be carried out by the members of the "UNIMOG- und Schlepper-Freunde Biberach e.V." themselves, supported by a catering company which will be responsible for the food.

Future

The aim of the association is to successfully hold the annual UNIMOG and tractor meeting in the centre of Biberach. In 2019 it will take place for the 16th time. Furthermore, the association is considering what activities it can start to introduce young people to this hobby and the technology and to inspire them. Because the technical basis can easily become over 100 years old - the human basis lags behind with an average life expectancy of 80 years ... So we need a cross-generational circle of friends to continue the history of the UNIMOG and tractors!
